Appraisal services are available by appointment at your home, office, or our office. All appraisals are carried out following recognized professional standards and conform to the Code of Professional Ethics set by the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). As a member of NAJA, Rick's work adheres to the NAJA Client's Bill of Rights.
A jewelry appraisal entails a certified expert assessing a piece or collection of jewelry to establish its monetary worth. This process usually produces a document that describes the item's features and its appraised value.
During appointments, you will sit directly across from me, allowing you to observe, ask questions, and participate in the evaluation process. Some items might need further market research, which could lengthen the time required to finish the report.
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 904-698-3511.
Please bring any relevant paperwork for the item, such as quality analysis reports from reputable international laboratories like GIA, EGL, or AGS. After I finish analyzing your diamond, I will ask to see the certificate so I can scan it and add it to your printed appraisal report.

Did you know that most homeowner insurance policies don’t cover jewelry loss or damage unless the items are specifically appraised and listed? Due to this requirement, insurance appraisals are the most frequently requested type of service appraisal.
An insurance appraisal is a detailed description of the item's quality and condition, including the cut, color, clarity, and carat weight of diamonds or colored stones, along with photographs of the jewelry and other identifying information.
Insurance appraisals determine the current retail replacement cost, which is the value an insurance company would use when replacing a damaged, lost, or stolen item.
A thorough, precise, and professional insurance appraisal is crucial for ensuring fair compensation in cases of damage, theft, or loss.

Are you acting as the trustee of an estate and need to determine the value of jewelry for tax reasons or fair distribution? If that’s the case, you probably require an Estate Appraisal.
An Estate Appraisal is less detailed than an Insurance Appraisal. It includes an itemized list of personal property with photos, brief descriptions, and an estimated Fair Market Value for each item.
Fair Market Value is defined as the price at which the property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or to sell, and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts.
If you want a fair way to divide jewelry among (sometimes difficult) heirs or figure out an estate’s tax responsibilities, then an Estate Appraisal is what you need.

Consultations are priced lower than appraisal services because they do not include a full appraisal report or an estimate of the item's value.

Gemstone Identification Consultations simply serve as a third-party confirmation that a gemstone or jewelry item is as the seller describes. What the seller advertised it to be.

Spectroscopy plays a crucial role in gemology, providing valuable insights into gemstone identification, origin, and treatments. By analyzing how gemstones interact with light, spectroscopy offers significant benefits for gemology, enabling precise identification, characterization, and authentication of gemstones.
"Optical spectroscopy is the most powerful tool used for characterization of gem-quality diamonds. Spectroscopy alone may deliver complete information on every diamond: its origin, method of growth and treatment history."
