Appraisal services are offered by appointment in the privacy of your home or office. All appraisals are conducted according to generally accepted professional standards, adhering to the Code of Professional Ethics established by the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA) and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). As a member of NAJA, Rick's work complies with the NAJA Client's Bill of Rights.
A jewelry appraisal involves a certified professional examining a piece of jewelry or a collection to determine its monetary value. This process typically results in a document detailing the object's attributes and assigned value.
During appointments, you will sit directly across from me, allowing you to observe, ask questions, and engage in the evaluation process. Some items may require additional market research, which could extend the time needed to complete the report.
I offer the following appraisal services:
- Gem identification
- Appraisals for insurance purposes
- Estate appraisals
- Market value assessments for resale, equitable distribution, or divorce matters
- Liquidation or scrap-value appraisals
- Damage reports
- Hypothetical reports for the loss of undocumented items
If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 904-698-3511.
I also ask that you bring any relevant paperwork regarding the item, such as quality analysis reports from respected international laboratories like GIA, EGL, or AGS. After completing my analysis of your diamond, I will request to see the certificate to scan it and include it in your printed appraisal report.

A insurance appraisal is a detailed description of the quality and condition of the item, the cut, color, clarity and carat weight of diamonds or colored stones, photographs of the jewelry and other identifying information.
Insurance appraisals calculate the current retail replacement cost, as this is the value an insurance company would need to reference when replacing a damaged, lost or stolen item.
A professional, accurate and detailed insurance appraisal is an essential document for you to be equitably compensated in the event of damage, theft or loss.

An Estate Appraisal is less detailed than an Insurance Appraisal. This type of appraisal consists of an itemized list of personal property with photos, abbreviated descriptions and an estimated Fair Market Value of each item.
Fair Market Value is defined as the price at which the property would change hands between a willing buyer and a willing seller, neither being under any compulsion to buy or to sell and both having reasonable knowledge of relevant facts.
If you are looking for an impartial way to distribute jewelry amongst (sometimes difficult) heirs or determine an estate’s tax obligations, then an Estate Appraisal is what you are looking for.
